Professional Experience:

Jay is a Harvard Law School educated “AV” rated attorney who has served as full-time Mediator and Arbitrator for more than 20 years. He is specialized in handling  commercial, employment, construction, real property and intellectual property matters, including class actions. During this time, he has handled nearly a thousand arbitrations and mediations, involving primarily large and complex matters. Jay has been a commercial arbitrator with the national roster of the American Arbitration Association since 1999, where he serves on the Large Complex Case, Commercial, Real Property and Construction, Employment, Class Action and Healthcare Panels, and on the roster of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR). He has served as a neutral for Judicate West since 2005. He isa fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and he is a distinguished fellow of the International Academy of Mediators.

During his legal career Jay served as a Partner at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker (a large international law firm).  He has also served as an Adjunct Professor teaching ADR courses at UMKC, Pepperdine, and Loyola Law Schools, and as a Resident Professor of ADR and Chair of the Arbitration Program at Creighton University Law School.

Jay frequently writes and speaks on ADR topics. He recently completed teaching the course on Commercial Arbitration to students at UMKC Law School, and is scheduled to teach the  course again in the spring of 2020. On August 22, 2019, he will  present the Alaris-sponsored webinar, “Surprising Traps in Arbitration and How to Avoid Them.”
